A ROAD at Hoomeavy was blocked for 19 hours at the end of last week when an HGV lorry became stuck.

The Polish driver was instructed by his Sat Nav to take the road through Hoomeavy and Clearbrook to get to Cadover Bridge and got stuck going round a tight bend.

Resident of Hoomeavy Geoff Strickland said unfortunately the narrow lane was totally unsuitable for HGVs which were effectively wider than the road itself.

'The poor driver was just following his Sat Nav and did not speak any English so it was quite upsetting for him,' said Mr Strickland. 'He was on his way to the Clayworks at Lee Mill but lorries should use the main A386.

'It would be beneficial if there was a prominent sign at Hoomeavy to say the road is unsuitable for HGVs to stop this happening.

'It is not the first time.'

Damage was caused to boundary walls of two properties and the coping stones on the bridge.

The incident happened at around 7pm last Thursday (January 8) and the vehicle, which was partially on its side, was freed at 2pm the next day.
