CELEBRATIONS were underway after refurbishment work at Okehampton's Ockment Centre — friends and volunteers opened up its doors for visitors to enjoy the facilities last week.
Manager of the centre Lindsey Svensson (above, centre) said: 'We were very pleased to see a constant stream of people during the day and quite a few in the evening.'
Lindsey said it was good to see people from the community in the centre: 'We had a lot of interest from the public who showed their support by coming along to see what we have to offer.
'We also had a visit from Cllr John Rawlinson, who seemed very pleased with the centre.
'On a whole it was just fantastic to see local people interested in what was going on and the whole atmosphere was great.'
Chairman of Devon County Council Cllr Rawlinson said: 'I am very impressed with what the staff and volunteers have done to the centre.
'They have worked very hard to achieve a really pleasant building and I felt very welcomed.
'The atmosphere is great with the clean, smart lounge and it makes you want to go in and make full use of the centre and its facilities.'
