NOMINATIONS are being sought from West Devon for a special award scheme aimed at searching out the nation's heroes. The Vodafone Life Savers Awards want to hear from members of the public or of the emergency services who have saved lives in exceptional circumstances. Judges in the awards include TV personality Nell McAndrew and actor Martin Kemp as well as Major General David Pennethather from the Royal Humane Society. Helping to launch the awards are personalities such as Cilla Black and footballing legend Gary Lineker, who said: 'We'd all like to feel there is a hero in each of us, but the men and women honoured by the Vodafone Life Savers Awards have shown they possess the strength and courage to truly become one.' Those selected by the judging panel will receive their award at a special reception at 10 Downing Street in the autumn, where they will be personally congratulated by the Prime Minister. Research published recently shows only 28% of the population can confidently administer first aid, while 77% of adults wished they had better knowledge of how to act in an emergency.
