COMMUNITIES throughout Devon are being asked to shout with pride about their way of life and enter the Community Council of Devon's competition.

This annual competition, which is open to any Devon group, town, village or society that thinks and acts like a community, recognises the work that communities do to improve the areas in which they live.

The competition, which is in its second year, highlights the efforts of Devon's rural communities and aims to encourage communities to learn from each other's experiences.

Last year's winner, the Bratton Fleming Community Composting Group, demonstrated how a simple task of gathering garden waste could achieve great benefits for the community.

This year, special consideration will be given to any group which can highlight that it has improved their community's carbon footprint. The winner will be announced on Friday September 28, and will win a £500 cash prise.
