SOMEONE with an interest in helping to preserve the beauty of Dartmoor is sought to join the Dartmoor National Park Authority. A spokesperson for the national park authority said applicants should have a good understanding of the issues affecting the national park and be prepared to work to achieve national park purposes. They should also be able to contribute positively to debate within the authority and be ready to make decisions on many aspects on park management, including sustainable development, conservation, planning, housing, access, recreation, agriculture, forestry and resource issues. The time commitment would be two to three days per month. The appointment starts in spring 2008 and is usually for three years, with the option of re-appointment for up to ten years. Expenses and travel to meetings, along with an allowance, are payable.
