CALLINGTON Town Council says residents can expect to see an improvement in the cutting of grass verges in the town, now it has taken on the service from Cornwall Council.
But at a town council meeting last week, resident Brian Riley asked how this could be possible, if only three or four cuts a year were being made.
Mr Riley said the grass outside his house was 18" high: 'Cornwall Council says it has no money to do it but what would the reaction be if I could not pay my council tax because I had no money.
'It is just not good enough. I am fed up with paying for services and not getting anything for it.'
Cllr Jeremy Gist said the town council was taking over cutting the verges from Cornwall council and was waiting for some new equipment.
'This is our first year so it will be a steep learning curve,' he said. 'We are investing quite a bit of time and training into it and I hope people will see an improvement.'
Town and Cornwall councillor Andrew Long said since 2009, the verges had been cut four times a year.
He said: 'This has been the best growing weather for grass ever.
'Because of decisions that have been made, we do not have the revenue to cut more than four times a year.'
