AT the start of the year, eleven swimmers from the West Devon entered the British Long Distance Association Swim held at Kelly College and at various other pools throughout the country.
The idea of the event is to swim as far as possible within one hour. It is open to all ages and abilities of swimmers, from under 10's to 85 years plus.
Between them they swam almost 28km within the hour! The ages ranged from 33 to 80 years-old with Ann Mason (2,245m) and Mary Philpotts (1,375m) both scooping the bronze medal position in their age groups.
Liz Vernon (3,410m) and Maureen Pearce (2,530m) narrowly missed out on the medals in fifth position in their age groups.
All the swimmers attend the adult lessons and training sessions at Kelly Pool.
Other notable swims achieved came from Yvonne Carpenter Warren (3,335m), Clare Short (2,995m), Nicola Deane Simmons (2,970m), Yana Fox (2,635m), Jennifer Brooker (2,020m), Margaret Gregory (1,875m) and Stewart Pearce (2,590m).
