YELVERTON is the first fire station in the Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service to launch its own station blog.

It was the idea of watch commander Fred Glanville who wanted to be able to let people know more about the retained fire service and what it does.

'Its been approved by the brigade and all the incidents we attend will be there,' he said. 'It may not always be smack up to date because I work away from home during the week but hopefully people will get some benefit from it.'

Included on the blog are photos of incidents and training sessions, information about being a retained officer and recruitment criteria and community fire safety.

People can comments on incidents and Mr Glanville said it was a good way of communicating with the public and putting out warning messages: 'Hopefully it will instil a bit of confidence in people when they see what we do,' he said.
