A SIMPLE and cost-effective service has been designed to enable older and disabled people to insulate their lofts and reduce their fuel bills as a result.

The loft clearance service will be delivered by Local Handyperson services, which are supported and part funded by Cornwall Council, and will aim to reduce the risks of poor health that arise from fuel poverty and cold, damp homes.

Handyperson Services have been operational across Cornwall for over ten years, and provide a trusted service which enables older and disabled people to get many minor repairs and adaptations carried out.

Under the scheme the contents of the loft are moved to a suitable location, and if the householder wants to dispose of any items, advice is given on the best way to do this. The loft can then be insulated by Community Energy Plus under their home insulation scheme.

Prices for loft clearance will start from £40, with financial assistance available for those in receipt of certain means tested benefits. Enquiries are being taken by Community Energy Plus on 0800 954 1956.
