HORRABRIDGE’S very own radio station is now under new management after its creator stepped down.
Radio Walkham is the UK’s only radio station based within a pub — the London Inn at Horrabridge — and was established by Paul Hillier in 2017.
The station has continued to grow in popularity and recently set up its 13th remote studio in order to broadcast to the community during coronavirus as its main base was suspended to protect its presenters.
Paul, who created and established the station, was its director until last week when he stood down due to health reasons.
During a special announcement, Paul said: ‘After nearly three years my time as station director of Radio Walkham has come to an end.
‘I am so very proud of the things we’ve achieved and hope it will continue to grow under the leadership of new station director Melanie Gregory.
‘Please continue to support this fantastic little radio station.’
He added that he may come back for one-off shows in the future.
Melanie added: ‘Big shoes to step into as Paul has done such a great job creating the station which I have been helping him to run in the last 12 months.
‘With Paul giving up I couldn’t see Radio Walkham go, so I will try my best to fulfil this commitment.
‘We have been running from 13 remote studios in presenters homes but we have just started to use studio 1 above The London Inn again. I obviously couldn’t do it with out all the great presenters.
‘I am hoping that the station will grow and everyone will support me along the way with this journey and continue to listen and enjoy Radio Walkham.’
