THE South West's most dynamic annual food festival takes place in Exeter this weekend — with West Devon set to provide many of the highlights. The Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink takes place from Friday, April 11 to Sunday, April 13 in the surrounds of Northernhay Gardens and Exeter Castle. Michael Caines, executive chef at the Michelin- starred Gidleigh Park Hotel in Chagford, said: 'The festival is an incredibly important event for local producers and gives customers the chance to sample the fantastic quality and range of produce we have readily available on our doorstep in the Westcountry.' Mr Caines will be joined by Masterchef winner, James Nathan, to perform a cookery demonstration at 7pm on the Friday evening. Ian Webber, head chef at Gidleigh Park, was first spotted by Michael Caines at the festival and will now be performing his own demonstration. Other chefs, who will be involved throughout the weekend, include Lesley Waters, James Tanner, Peter Gorton, Neil Haydock and Nathan Outlaw. Mr Caines said: 'This amazing line-up of the region's chefs is testament to how popular the festival is and only helps encourage home enthusiasts.' Lewtrenchard Manor will also be on hand to represent West Devon and will be serving and selling samples of their dishes throughout the weekend. More than 80% of produce used by the manor comes from its own garden and the different herbs, fruit and vegetables grown at the manor will be on display at the festival.
