AT a meeting of the Devon Federation of Women?s Institutes held recently at Exeter University, the following resolution was passed by members: ?This meeting urges WI members to do all in their power to raise public awareness of the unfair difference between the retail price of milk and the price paid to the farmer?.
If we do not compensate the farmers who are currently paid less per pint than the production costs, we shall soon lose more and more of our dairy herds and milk production in the UK will ultimately cease.
Think of our county?s economy of cream were no longer produced for our famed cream teas!
I request anyone who reads this letter to lobby milk retailers, supermarkets and MPs of any party to work towards getting a fair price for the producer (farmer) for a commodity which we all use on a daily basis.
