DIRTY cars are welcome at Focus car park in Tavistock on Easter Saturday where local girl Lizzy Berna and her friends will be cleaning them to raise money for community work in Tanzania.

In July, Lizzy, who lives in Tavistock but attends Notre Dame RC School in Plymouth, will travel to Tanzania with four of her school friends and a member of staff o help build a new school.

They will also be involved in conservation work and trek up Mount Meru, raising money for charities back home, including Riding for the Disabled, GOSH, HCPT and Children's Hospice South West.

They have been fundraising in earnest for a year and still have between £500 and £1,000 to raise each. They are hoping for a good turn-out at the car wash and the suggested minimum donation is £2.50. There will also be cakes to buy.

In addition there is a bag collection to raise money for the girls on May 13. They are collecting bags of clothing, shoes, curtains, bedspreads, cuddly toys and belts.
