Okehampton Colts 0

Ivybridge Colts 8

WITH Ivybridge league leaders and Okehampton second, very little separated the two teams.

Okehampton pack started the better, pushing Ivybridge back in the scrums for the first 20 minutes. Ivybridge made some pack changes and then had the better of the scrums with the last 20 minutes all even.

In the lineouts Will Hawking and Will Heard won better ball for Okehampton; in the backs the defences ruled with good tackling from both sides.

The best try scoring opportunity came when Callum Ausden had a strong run down the wing.

With just one player to beat he tried to chip the ball over the defender but sliced the kick and the other wing, James Bird, went outside his man but got taken into touch by a good cover tackle ten metres out.

Ivybridge had the better of the territory in the second half but play stayed between the two 22 metre lines and with time starting to run out it looked like a 0-0 draw would be a fair result, but from a fairly long-range penalty to Okehampton, Kevin Dennis just missed; Ivybridge returned with a long clearance kick, and as the ball bounced into touch, an Okehampton player tried to keep the ball in play by flicking it back towards a team mate but his foot was clearly over the line.

Most players stopped but an Ivybridge player kicked on to score with no flag going up from the Ivybridge touch.
