Devon Intermediate Cup

second round

Lamerton 5

Gleasons Sports Club 3

LAMERTON came out on top in an eventful match played in windy conditions.

They took the lead early on when good work by Tony Jones and Zak Beesley was well finished by Paul Breyley who scored his first of the season.

The visitors equalised when a shot from Nathan O'Sullivan took a wicked bounce and deceived Pete Daniel at the near post.

The lead was restored when Paul Cowling pressured the defence to get Lamerton's second but a twice taken penalty made things level at half-time.

The deadlock was broken in the second half when sub Steve Wickett, playing his first game back from injury, outpaced the visitors' back line to restore Lamerton's advantage. He then converted a penalty to make the score 4-2 and Cowling grabbed a fifth with a shot just under the bar.

But the action was not over however and Gleasons missed a second penalty before Lee Thompson pulled a goal back with a firm header.

The reshuffled back four of Ian Collacott, Tim Lyle, Graham Cole and Tony Jones soaked up the pressure excellently in the final quarter while the midfield of man of the match Will Cann performed heroics.

This Saturday home to Biscovey in the KO Cup, 2pm kick-off.
