THERE will be a unique opportunity for plant lovers to explore some usually private locations this month, when the village of Moretonhampstead holds its secret gardens event.

Now in its 12th year, the event has become ever more popular ? almost 600 visitors visited a dozen gardens over two days last year, raising a record £4,000 for the Friends of St Andrew?s church charity.

This year, 14 gardens will be open to the public between 11am and 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday, June 26 and 27.

Nick McCarthy, secret gardens organiser, said: ?A number of gardens in the centre of the village will open for the first time, including the historic Greenhill House, while old favourites such as Hayne Old Manor will participate as usual.?

Hayne Old Manor will host a plant sale over the weekend and there will be light lunches available at 31 Court Street and at Steward Mill. Cream teas will be served at Hayne and Great Doccombe Farm.

Tickets, costing £4 to cover every garden, are available at Moretonhampstead Tourist Information Centre and Monica?s Flowers. For more information, call Nick McCarthy on 01647 440965.
