TAVISTOCK Lions are appealing for unwanted tools to be sent to Africa as part of Operation Sunshine.
Members will be manning a collection point in Bedford Square this Saturday (August 2), hoping for donations of hammers, chisels, wheelbarrows, spades, forks ? and even small men?s trousers!
The items will be sent to Zimbabwe in September to help African people grow their own produce and start ?cottage industries?.
The Lions are also looking for working electrical tools, as the voltage in Zimbabwe is the same as in England.
Strong padlocks, small safes and office equipment such as staplers and hole punches would also be useful.
Any tools should be clean and in usable condition, although rusty tools can be cleaned and oiled and the Lions will arrange for anything blunt to be sharpened prior to despatch.
Several containers filled with tools, computers, clothing and other equipment have been sent from Tavistock to various African nations over the last few years.
The collection point will run from 10am to 2pm on Saturday. Anybody who has items which are too large to carry, or a lot of items, can call 01822 614307 and the Lions can arrange assistance.
