TAVISTOCK Chamber of Commerce is urging the town?s businesses to contribute to this year?s Christmas Lights and Dickensian Appeal.

Both the lights and the Dickensian evening are organised by volunteers from the chamber, who rely on donations to fund them.

Each year, a total of around £5,000 is required to erect, maintain, insure, dismantle and store the Christmas lights.

And the annual Dickensian Evening, which sees shops stay open late with staff dressed in period costume, costs in the region of £1,200 to organise.

In previous years there have been two separate collections, but this year, for ease of administration, the Committee is asking for a single contribution.

They are appealing for £35 from businesses with a single frontage and £70 from larger businesses.

Guy Talbot, of Tavistock Chamber of Commerce, said: ?We have a little way to go, but I?m sure we will get there.?

Contributions should be sent to PO Box 130, Tavistock, Devon, PL19 8FA.

A receipt and window sticker will be delivered in person to those who choose to donate.
