HEAR about life on a Dartmoor farm on August 7 with farmer Ken Watson and enjoy the views from Hartland Tor. Enjoy a two hour walk from 2pm to 4pm with Ken, seeing the livestock, farming systems, habitats and historic features on his traditional Dartmoor Farm. The walk will be followed by a demonstration of shepherding skills using trained working dogs by Jed Watson. Refreshments will be available after the walk. The route follows footpaths for some of the way, including a short walk by the river, but much of it is over moorland. The terrain will be uneven in many areas and the walking will be quite strenuous. Walkers are advised to be prepared for Dartmoor weather and wear long trousers, sleeves and stout waterproof footwear. The walk is suited to adults and older children. It is not recommend for children under ten and is not suitable for people with buggies or wheelchairs. Due to the presence of livestock visitors are asked not to bring dogs to the event. Visitors are asked to meet at the National Park Visitor Centre in Postbridge, where they will then head to Middle Merripit Farm. The cost is £5 for adults or children. Booking is essential and places are limited to 20. To book call 01822 890414.
