A FORMER Tavistock College student is celebrating after successfully passing the first stage of training in his bid to become an air traffic controller in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy. Stephen Roberts, who is 26, joined the Royal Navy in February this year after working for Focus DIY as a customer and administration assistant. Since joining the Royal Navy, he has successfully completed a hectic period of leadership and academic training at Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, including two months at sea on the amphibious assault ship HMS Albion. Deployed to the United States, Stephen and his colleagues were introduced to all aspects of life on a fully operational warship. Stephen?s parents Derek and Lynne Roberts travelled to Dartmouth to witness Stephen taking part in the impressive passing out parade. Sub Lt Roberts has now commenced further professional training.
