LIFE is now stable for the dog named Mable, who suffered with a rare canine form of narcolepsy. Former Tavistock resident Trevor Gliddon and his eight-year-old bearded collie cross Mable were featured in the Times in 2011, when Mable regularly suffered with an attack of the naps. She would suddenly fall asleep when she was over-stimulated or excited, lie still for a few moments, and then be up and running again. Vets had said although it was a very unusual condition, it wasn't causing Mable any harm. But since emigrating to the Italian countryside and enjoying the laid-back atmosphere, Mable has seen a drastic improvement in her condition. Trevor, 50, said: 'We've only been here in Tuscany a short while but Mable's condition had improved over the first few months as the lifestyle is slow-paced and very relaxed. Her attacks are now maybe once in three months as before it could be eleven to 15 times a week, sometimes up to three or four a day!' Trevor first met Mable when she was three, after finding her on Dartmoor having slipped from her owner's lead. He learned her owner had a heart condition and was unable to look after her and so he adopted her as his canine companion. Formerly working as a freelance press photographer, Trevor took many pictures of Mable and told her unusual story, propelling her into the limelight. The story of the narcoleptic dog was picked up by national papers and she even appeared on ITV's morning show Daybreak. More recently her video clip was used by BBC quiz show 'Have I Got News For You' in the 'odd one out' round.
