VISITORS to Tavistock Library could be forgiven for thinking they were on a different planet recently, as the building was invaded by mini aliens.

Andy Fry and Norma Mullaniff, authors of the new childrens book I Was Kidnapped by a Teenage Girl Alien, put on a space-themed event for children visiting the library where they transformed the children into extraterrestrials.

The workshop allowed children to get imaginative and messy by making their own alien masks.

The authors held similar events at libraries in Princetown and Ivybridge.

Andy Fry said: We read some of our latest book and talked to the children about what aliens were and where they come from. Then we got them to imagine they were aliens.

They drew pictures, talked about their planets and made a mask to show what they looked like. They put a lot of effort into their masks and came out with some great stuff. They also asked a lot of really good questions.

Andy said the feedback from the day was really positive and they received great support from the libraries: It was really nice for us to see what vibrant and interactive places libraries have become. Not at all the old cliché about having to be silent.
