A WEST Devon vineyard has acted as a filming location for Sky One’s hit series Delicious.

Alder Vineyard near Lewdown hosted a filming session back in September for the second series of the popular drama, in scenes that will feature in this Friday’s episode (January 5).

Actors Emilia Fox, Ruairi O’Connor and Aaron Anthony took part in the session in the vineyard itself, with the team creating a special set for some parts of the filming. The team at Alder Vineyard have been sworn to secrecy up until now so as not to give away any potential plot points.

Tom Hodgetts, assistant vineyard manager, said the production company contacted the vineyard a month prior to filming with the specification of filming a vineyard with a beautiful countryside backdrop.

He said: ‘The view from the vineyard overlooking Dartmoor seemed to be just what they were after and we can’t blame them because we are very lucky to be growing our grapes in such a beautiful place and with such great views.

‘It was amazing to have the filming crew with us, having so many people and so many cameras around the vineyard was really special and a real buzz. We had a brilliant day and we can not wait to see the results this Friday.

‘We love nothing more than showing people around the vines throughout the year so it’s fantastic that so many people will see the vines on their televisions too!

‘Emilia and the team were lovely and very appreciative when we gave her a few bottles of our award winning wines.’

Comedienne Dawn French, Silent Witness actress Emilia Fox, Game of Thrones actor Iain Glen and stage and screen star Sheila Hancock all return in the new series, joined by legendary Italian film star Franco Nero.

Delicious focuses on passionate cooke Gina (Dawn French) who has inherited the Penrose Hotel and Restaurant together with glamorous Sam (Emilia Fox), both former wives of the deceased head chef Leo Vincent (Iain Glen).

Since Sky One’s last visit to the Penrose, Gina and Sam’s business has been booming; their delicate friendship has lasted and the pair are on the lookout for a new protégé in the kitchen.

However, it’s not long before the dynamics of family, love, rivalry and life start to get in the way of Gina and Sam’s success — not least when Gina’s estranged father (Franco Nero) turns up at the doorstep combined with further surprises from the past and the impact of Leo’s legacy.

The vineyard is not the first location in the area to be thrown into the spotlight thanks to the series. The village of Calstock and the Pentillie estate in East Cornwall featured prominently in the first series, with villagers getting their five minutes of fame as they starred as extras.
