Chetwynd Tamar League
Ordulph Taverners v Lewdown A
HAVING lost the toss the Ordulph were asked to chase leather in the hot afternoon sun.
The opening Lewdown batsmen scored at a cracking rate, despite losing R Squire bowled by Jan Folley in the fourth over.
The next partnership of E Squire (67) and M Squire (56) rattled along at a rapid pace putting on 88 runs in the next 14 overs.
With a massive 117 on the board after 20 overs it looked like the Ordulph would be chasing a huge score.
Some semblance of order was restored with the introduction of Johnny Lethbridge to the attack, who took five wickets which included the danger men E and M Squire. Lethbridge was supported by the steady bowling of Smith with two wickets off his 12 over spell.
Lewdown then picked up the run rate again with a late flurry of runs from Worth, who smashed a rapid 36 not out, supported by Geering with a useful 17. A total of 208 for 9 wickets presented a challenge for the Ordulph to chase.
In reply things did not get off to the best of starts with the Ordulph losing both opening batsmen, Statton and Rae, in the first four overs with only four runs. However, Mitchell (18) and Tynan (24) stopped the rot and put on a 50 partnership for the third wicket.
Tight bowling from Vernon, 1 for 21 off 12, and R Squire, 1 for 8 off 6, made runs difficult to come by for the Ordulph who had only 35 on the board after 20 overs.
With the loss of Mitchell and Tynan, a brave attempt to push the runs along was made by Sherrell (21) but it was becoming increasingly clear that Lewdown?s total was not going to be reached.
Smith (21 not out) and Crowl (21 not out) enabled the Ordulph to score 130 for 5 and pick up the consolation of a couple of extra batting points.
Exceptionally good fielding from the young Lewdown side was a major factor in restricting the Ordulph?s score to what it was.
This week the Ordulph entertain Calstock at Kelly College.
