THE Lancaster Cup Final was played at Tavistock Cricket Club on Friday evening in bright sunny conditions on a cracking track. Tavistock won the toss and put Lewdown into bat. Adie Clements and Dave Ball put bat to ball and after 5 overs the score stood at 49 with no wickets down. John Rich bowled Ball at 60 which quickly became 62 for 2 when Ed Squire was bowled by Dave Jefferies. Carl Weekes joined Clements and they pushed the score to the hundred mark in the 9th over and to 139 in the 12th over when Clements was caught behind by Mark Webber off Jefferies for 88 which included 9 fourss and 6 sixes. Weekes played some unorthodox shots with some classic ones in between to make 83 (8 fours and 5 sixes). He put on 97 with Mark Jordan (39) who was out on the penultimate ball of the innings. Lewdown finished on 236 for 4 - a record for the final. Pick of the Tavistock bowlers was Dave Jeffries with 2 for 30 off 4 overs. John Rich also picked up 2 wickets but at a cost of 48 off 3 overs. Tavistock opened with Paul Strawbridge and Steve Johns. They made a steady but unspectacular start but were able to make 43 off the first 5 overs and 90 off 9 overs. Acceleration came in the 11th over with 27 runs to take the score to 120 which was very nearly up to Lewdown?s innings and left Tavistock requiring 97 off the last 9 overs. The first wicket fell in the 14th over with the score at 137 when Johns was run out attempting a run to the keeper. He had made 60. Disaster fell in the 15th over when Strawbridge was unluckily run out by a deflection off the bowlers foot. He had made 76 and the score was 148 for 2. John Mcgahey then hit a quick15 before hitting a full toss straight to a fielder leaving the score at 168 for 3 with 4 overs to go. James Kaminski was bowled in the 17th over for 3 by Jordan who followed up next ball by bowling Brett Thomas. John Rich survived the hat trick ball but was caught in the 18th over for 3. Milligan also scored 3 before becoming Jordan?s 3rd victim. Roger Rich fell in the last over leaving Webber not out on 16 and the total on 192 for 8. Lewdon ran out winners by 44 runs. Best of the bowling for Lewdown was Mark Jordan with 3 for 18 off 4 overs whilst Charlie Hughes took 3 for 29 off 3 overs. Stuart Munday of sponsors Atlas International presented the Lancaster Trophy to the winning skipper Adie Clements who was also nominated Man of the Match for his 88 runs. The competition would run again in 2007. It was hoped the annual meeting would be in February so all fixtures could be arranged early and put on clubs? fixture cards.
