I WELCOME the letter from Derek Godfrey Brown (August 25) in reply to my letter of August 4, explaining that he did not intend to brand all cyclists as habitually riding on pavements. I am sure that this will reassure the many cyclists I have spoken to who also interpreted his original letter in the same manner that I had. However, let us be clear on this, his letter, which is headed ?cyclists seem to think they have a divine right? and includes a phrase ?pavements where cyclists seem to consider they have some divine right to ride? cannot I believe be interpreted in any other way. If he only meant to highlight a ?few? rogue riders who cause these problems it should have been made clear in his original letter. Furthermore, if he cared to read my letter, I did not say or infer that his letter was crass, rather that it was his insinuation that all cyclists practised such activities, which, of course, is not the case. The word crass also means ?insensitive? which is the point that I was trying to make about some of the comments made. Michael Rice Downside Okehampton
