FUNDRAISERS for a new community hall for Lamerton had a pleasant surprise when Dartmoor letter-boxing friends handed them more than £600 ? double what they had initially raised from searching for hidden letter-boxes on the moor.

Eddie and Betty Golding and their daughter Carol Golding are regular visitors to the village, and had organised a series of Dartmoor letter-boxing jaunts during autumn and winter to raise funds for its new sports and community centre.

They raised £309, but were able to double the total by attracting pound for pound matched funding for the project.

Parish hall chairman Valerie Hill and her committee were delighted to receive the surprise cheque for almost £620 presented at their fortnightly coffee morning recently.

The parish hall would provide a main hall used for badminton, short mat bowls, volleyball and table tennis as well as meeting rooms, kitchen, store, toilets and changing rooms.
