ALTHOUGH not being directly involved, I read with a certain amount of pleasure that the bus-parking idea for Wonnacotts Road, Okehampton, has been killed off.

The site was beset with difficulties and would have been a waste of, at some stage, a potential building site.

Okehampton?s need goes beyond simple bus parking. We should be preparing for a dedicated bus/coach station, offering some shelter and toilet facilities.

There is no great need at this moment to go for a short term measure, as considerable temporary bus parking space is available at the station. Passengers can be ?dropped off? in the town and collected later from Market Street/West Street areas.

Please do not let us see the waste of the proposed £12,000 on a feasibility study.

A little more patience and something positive with a long-term future will present itself.

The astute business sense which negotiated the Waitrose contract some time ago should prevail and £12,000 be put aside towards a good quality bus/coach station as befits our town.

I HAVE been reading in the Times of the trials and tribulations of finding parking space for Okehampton?s buses. What a sorry mess it is.

In spite of many pleas, the new car park was built without any plans for future parking of buses and lorries convenient to the centre of the town.

I cannot believe the Wonnacotts Road and North Road site would ever be thought suitable.

I suppose somewhere will be found in the end, but it will never be like the excellent car parks we had before, with room for everything in the town centre.
