RESIDENTS in town and country are gearing up to celebrate the Royal Wedding next month.

Stoke Climsland and Callington residents are planning to party on Friday, April 29, the day Prince William and Kate Middleton will be married.

Having played host to previous Royal events, such as the Queen's Golden Jubilee, and with plans to mark the up-coming 75th wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip, Stoke Climsland community will come together to celebrate this year's wedding over two days — Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30.

Organiser Louise Power said: 'There will be traditional games such as tug o' war and welly-wanging.'

The day of celebrations will begin with a breakfast in the marquee during which there will be a live screening of the royal wedding at the Old School.

Children will be particularly welcome to join in the party with a bouncy castle and egg 'n' spoon race — and adults can enjoy street parties, bell-ringing, barbecues, local bands and tea on the green.

Co-ordinated by the parish council the event will involve groups and societies in the vicinity, including the WI, Scouts, Ducklings, School PTA and Duchy College.

Organisers are open to facilitating those who are keen to attend but who may have mobility issues — Louise Power is happy to hear from anyone needing travel arrangements.

So far, £600 has been raised and any donations will be gratefully received.

A grand draw will be held with prizes donated from local businesses — from acupuncture to outdoor adventure days. Tickets are on sale now.?Contact Louise Power on 01579 370319 or Deri Parsons on 01579 370319.

Simultaneously on the Friday, residents of Callington will be celebrating with a street-style party in their town-hall.

Organised by the Lions Club and Rotarians, events will start at 10.30am.

The highlight of the day will be the screening of the wedding at 11am in the main hall and on the new TV screen in the café area. The capacity is for up to 100 children and 50 senior citizens.

Games will be organised for children, with suitable film screenings also offered. Catering will be provided during the day with a tea-party — donations will be gratefully received.

Town Councillor and Lion's Club president Jamie Dowdall said: 'I remember when I was a kid when the last royal wedding happened. I remember seeing photos and the flags being waved'.

The day will be a return to those nostalgic days and it is hoped it will attract royal revellers as well as those new to the experience.

In the evening, there will be a concert with local bands, comedy sketches and plenty of entertainment to bring continue celebrations long into the evening.

Cllr Dowdall said: 'A lot of people will be off work that day so we hope they will want to come to our event.'
