I WOULD like to make a comment on the future of Post Office in Exbourne. I attended a meeting last Monday at which a suggestion was put forward for a community post office/shop, similar to that recently opened in Sheepwash, in a derelict building in the village.
We were told that the present sub-postmistress had been unsuccessful in selling the business and that they wanted to retire. We were not told when she planned to retire.
The next day I saw an advertisement inviting applicants for the position of postmaster/postmistress in Exbourne. Anyone with suitable premises should apply in writing by the end of October 2001. Having been connected with the post office for over 40 years, I would estimate the present premises closing at the end of this year. My immediate concern is what then?
I would suggest to anyone interested in providing facilities for a post office in Exbourne when the present business closes to act quickly, otherwise another amenity will be lost to the village.
