I REFER to your front page story on the lack of coach parking in last week's edition and would like to add an extra dimension to this.

After all the enhancements and building we have suffered, we have lost one of the town's major assets. A large parking area. This not only took cars, buses and coaches but also gave the locals somewhere to park while towing a trailer. But more importantly it allowed all the tourists planning on visiting the area to park their cars with caravan or trailer, motor homes and other large units while they made use of the excellent tourist information office to find accommodation, bought supplies etc in the local shops and made use of local facilities.

But no, the powers that officially work on our behalf decided we did not need these facilities. Why, I don't know, as they have them in Tavistock.

I would like to see them carrying a weekend's supplies from the town centre to the railway station, if they could find it. North Road Industrial Estate might as well be on the moon.

When asked where to park in town by visitors with non-standard vehicles I have to reply: 'I'm sorry, but our council has not provided any suitable places.'.

So, come on, town and district planners, let's have some positive action. We have been enhanced!, We hopefully are getting a new sports complex, so let's provide suitable parking.

I WAS walking down through the centre of Lidl's car park when two coaches, each full of passengers, and with the same name, went around. When they got adjacent to each other the second driver shouted across to the first in no uncertain terms: 'What the devil do you think you're playing at?'

The first driver angrily shouted back: 'Trying to find the coach park, what do you think I am doing?'

I just stood there aghast — at the beginning of the summer.
