I READ in your paper, the letter (April 25) written by Dick Eberlie and fellow councillors, which has filled me with dismay.

We think of Tavistock as a charming little market town but we only need to look at Ivybridge with its acres of little houses (the second fastest development in Europe) to realise the fate that will befall Tavistock, with so much lovely countryside completely obliterated.

Mr Eberlie asked for protests, but if there is some lively person in Tavistock (unfortunately, I am immobile at the moment) they should get up a petition objecting to this plan and get everyone who cares about Tavistock and its environs to sign it.

It should be realised that governments, councils etc are very vulnerable to large protests by their constituents.
