ON one of the hottest nights of the year so far, a team of eight women, including four from the Okehampton area, pounded the pavements of London overnight in aid of a breast cancer charity. Jenny Norman from Okehampton, Brenda Tombs from South Zeal and Kathy Matthews and Libby Watson from Sticklepath covered the marathon distance of 26.2 miles as part of the Walk the Walk breast cancer fundraising event. The women were part of 15,000 other walkers ? 14,000 women and 1,000 men ? wearing individually decorated bras throughout the challenge which took place on June 19. Brenda said: ?Two of us were septuagenarians and two edging 60, but we completed the course in just over eight hours. ?A great experience and one of the hardest things we have ever attempted in our lives. Companionship, friendship, laughter and tears were there with us all the way ? would we do it again? No!?
