MEMBERS of the Royal British Legion branch in Okehampton are being urged to attend the annual meeting on November 19 to show their continued support for the organisation. A significant number of veterans of recent conflicts, including the current operation in Iraq and Afghanistan, are experiencing welfare and health difficulties, which have a direct impact on the legion?s resources yet the membership of the RBL has been declining in recent years. Devon?s public relations officer for RBL Peter Williams, who is also a member of the Okehampton branch, said: ?It is essential that the legion maintains a high public profile and encourages public awareness of the help it provides to the men and women who serve their country so unselfishly.? Members wishing to table items for consideration and discussion at this meeting in the RBL social club in Station Road should submit them in writing to the branch secretary no later than November 15. The meeting starts at 7.30pm. The Devon Festival of Remembrance will be held in The Great Hall at Exeter University on November 8 and it is hoped as many members from the Okehampton branch as possible will attend.
