MEMBERS of Tavistock Beekeepers' Association enjoyed expert help when they took part in their first meeting of 2007 at their apiary in Brentor earlier this month. Bee expert Di Askquith-Ellis was on hand to share her considerable knowledge in guiding the less skilled members in the afternoon's activities. The eight club hives were all hefted and found to range from good to excellent, the take up of food was verified, brood sizes checked and a varroa examination made, then the records for each hive were updated. Alison Howes, the club chairman, said: 'We'd love to see even more people of all ages come to the fortnightly aviary meetings. It makes a fun afternoon where everybody can learn something new about these fascinating creatures, exchange information with colleagues and have a pleasant social time as well.'
