THE largest entry of 29 players in the 14.1 competition took place last Sunday at the Red and Black Club.

It started with many good players from the Tamar Valley Pool League looking to win this one-day event.

In the top half of the draw, Chris Adams had some close games, but came through to the semi-final to meet Andy Hicks who had previously beaten Matt Balch with a break of 32. Andy showing good form won the semi 75-44.

In the bottom half of the draw, Ian Whiting won through to the last eight by beating Gary Williams (Callington Cricket Club) 51-0, a total whitewash,

Ian played Glenn Arundel (Legion) in the next round. Unfortunately for Ian things were not going his way. Glenn came away the winner to meet Darren Luckham in the second semi-final.

This semi started even before Glenn took the lead. Darren came back midway through the match with a 15-point break, but Glenn ran out the winner 75-59.

The final was the first to 75 between two Legion players. Andy Hicks took the early advantage, but went in off. This let Glenn in and he took full advantage with a break of 48.

Just one more visit from each player saw Glenn win the match 75-14.

l The Gazette competition will go ahead on Sunday the 13th and 27th of February. First prize will be a cash prize of £50 with a runner up prize of £25.
