CALLINGTON Town Training Band started 2007 under the baton of a new conductor. In December, members said 'goodbye' to Bill Leith, who had led them 'so admirably' for almost four years. They presented him with gift tokens and a framed photo to remind him of his time with them. Mr Leith now conducts Saltash Town Band. Lauren Rossiter, who plays first cornet in Callington's main band, has stepped into Bill's shoes and will make her first public appearance with the Training Band when it performs at the Portreeve's charity morning in the town hall on March 10. The training band consists of beginners of all ages and would welcome anyone who wishes to join, particularly trombonists or flugel players.
