THIS top of the table clash saw two well matched teams, showing excellent football skills and quality under pressure.

The opening line-up of Elliott Hoyte and Taylor McCormack in attack caused Southgate problems. Their persistence paid off with a goal late in the first half from Taylor, who has now scored in every game he has played in for Thistles.

At the other end, excellent defending from Ian Harvey, Cadan Lowther, Jack Quinn and Joshua Leeson ensured Southgate were unable to get an equaliser.

In the second half, Ben Langton ran the midfield with Ben White, Matthew Jefferies and Ben Pridham. Substitutions by James Northey and Ross Seward gave fresh heart and all the team played their utmost, ensuring goalkeeper Phillip Snell had little to do.

Late into the second half, Southgate managed to get one back. Both teams looked set to settle for a draw, but a late scrambled goal by Southgate put paid to Thistles hopes of success.
