Tiverton Town U14s 2
Okehampton Argyle U14s 2
THIS was always going to be the sternest test for Okehampton as they travelled to second placed Tiverton. At the final whistle, after superb performances all over the park, their unbeaten record remained intact, as did their leadership of the division.
In the early stages both sides looked to gain the upper hand but it was Argyle who opened the scoring. Tallan Burns, who worked tirelessly on the left, headed away a Tiverton free-kick and Ollie Crimmins picked it up before starting a 60 metre run in which he beat off two defenders before calmly slotting past the keeper. The remainder of the half was end to end with Rhys Palmer putting in a strong midfield performance and Ross Voaden in control all over his opponents.
Argyle suffered a setback five minutes into the second half when a Tiverton forward swivelled in the box to fire in corner of the net.
The scores weren't level for long though as Ollie Crimmins, who caused havoc up front all match, capitalised on a defensive mistake to restore Argyle's lead. Okehampton had to soak up tremendous pressure after this but the defence of Josh Stanbury, Lewis Taylor and Ryan Gross, along with keeper Aaron Dearing were outstanding. However, a cruel blow came with five minutes remaining when a speculative Tiverton shot was deflected past a stranded Dearing.
Argyle had the best chance to grab a winner at the finish, when Crimmins ran through on goal but he was thwarted by the home defence.
