MR U14s
Tavistock . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .5
Ivybridge . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .33
IN the final match of the season Tavistock showed real skill and determination to limit their opponents to five tries and, importantly, managed to score a touchdown of their own.
Limited availability in both squads meant that the game was played with no flankers ? a factor that reduced Tavistock?s potential since their strength lies with their forwards.
Nevertheless the game got off to a good start with a fine break by Friend which just could not be taken through to the try line.
Tavistock enjoyed their fair share of possession but the backs were not able to make any real progress. Ivybridge by contrast always looked dangerous with the ball and ran in three tries in the first half.
Tavistock did not let their heads fall and soon after the break a run by Friend led to a lineout near the Ivybridge line from which Frost snatched the ball and charged over.
Ivybridge responded almost immediately with a soft try ? when there was hesitancy over clearing the ball, but thereafter the game was fiercely contested.
There was excellent cover work by Shutler, Lawson and Thompson ? all pulling off try saving tackles, and some solid mauling by Jenns and Hickman.
Towards the end Ivybridge put together another well worked try.
The performance was a huge improvement on the away fixture back in October and gives reason to be really optimistic for next season.
