COMMUTERS using the Plymouth to Gunnislake branch line faced disruption this week, after one hundred tonnes of earth slipped and covered the tracks near Bere Ferrers. The landslip occurred on Sunday morning, between Bere Ferrers and Bere Alston. Since the incident, trains have only been able to travel as far as Bere Ferrers from Plymouth. A bus service has been laid on by First Great Western, which operates services on the line, to take travellers between Bere Ferrers and Gunnislake. A spokesman for First Great Western said: ?We are working hard to ensure our customers are inconvenienced as little as possible, which is why we put buses into service immediately.? A spokesman for Network Rail said it was likely to take all week for specialists to remove the rubble and debris and to inspect the line for damage, before trains can run once more. ?We believe the slide was caused by dry weather causing the earth to crumble,? said the spokesman.
