THE champions have been crowned in the first ever Tavistock Sunday night seven-a-side league at Tavistock College.

Lamerton FC emerged victorious from the 10 week battle with five other local teams — some of the first footballers to experience the college's new 3G rubber crumb all-weather pitch.

Barry Mountstevens, sports centre manager, said: 'The games kicked off with interesting results and B-Tec United were on the wrong end of a 10–1 result. After four weeks it seemed we had a runaway leader as Lamerton FC had won all their games and looked in impressive form until they were held by Tavistock Tyres to a 2-2 draw which stopped their momentum.

'By week seven the table had become interesting with the Dirty Dozen team beating Lamerton FC, making them the only side which could possibly challenge Lamerton FC for the title.'

However, the remaining fixtures did not go the Dirty Dozen's way, leaving Lamerton FC to be crowned champions with 23 points.

Mr Mountstevens added: 'Congratulations to them for this achievement and to the other teams - Real BA, Steaua Needarest, Dirty Dozen, B-Tec United and Tavistock Tyres — thank you for your support and participation.'

The next league is open for applications and is set to start on February 8, 2010.
