Duchy Premier Edgcumbe 3 Lamerton 1 A FREAK wind took place at Milbrook's pitch ten minutes into the second half, ending what had been a competitive and lively match. Edgcumbe took the lead early on in the first half when Lamerton failed to clear their lines and Graham O'Neil's quick shot found its way through past an unsighted keeper. Lamerton came back and made it 1-1 through a superb Steve Gibbings header. Gibbings, who guided it perfectly into the top corner, met Rich Searles' dead ball cross from the left. James Steer, James Healy and Searle all had sights on goal, but all failed to hit the target. Edgcumbe were strong, however, and missed several great opportunities to re-take the lead. The second half started well for Lamerton and they should gone ahead. A good move saw Dan Healy edge inside the box past the full back to get a clear sight on goal from ten yards and as he pulled the trigger looking certain to score, the Edgcumbe keeper and a defender came flying across and the goal bound, low, drilled shot was deflected just over. From then the weather totally disrupted the game, to the point that goal kicks became the focal point for the rest of the half. An extreme swirling wind made it barely playable and the game looked to be petering out for a draw, but with five minutes left came an unlikely goal from an Edgcumbe corner. The ball was whipped and bent straight into the opposite top angle of the goal. O'Neil scored another in stoppage time to cement Lamerton's woe.
