Lamerton 3
St Dennis 1
LAMERTON produced their best performance of the season in comfortably dispatching third placed St Dennis.
After a couple of torrid displays away from home, losing to Foxhole and narrowly beating lowly St Mawgan, this win came as a welcome reminder of what Lamerton can produce.
Wingers Tony Jones and Rich Searle caused St Dennis so many problems throughout the game, with James Healy and Steve Gibbings totally dominant in midfield.
Lamerton took the lead when Searle's excellent wing play and cross found Ross Hann, who took it down on his chest and slotted home from eight yards.
St Dennis equalised against the run of play five minutes later, through an exquisite shot from 20 yards by captain Richard Hawke.
Lamerton came straight back and created four clear-cut chances to re-take the lead including two from Hann, who again found room from close in but he could not finish; Kev Swift then rounded the keeper and looked certain to score with the goal gaping, but he embarrassingly scuffed his shot into the side netting.
Would Lamerton rue the wasted chances? The answer was no as fortune favoured their dominance, when Jones's long range cross come shot deceived the keeper and snuck in underneath the cross-bar to the delight of the home crowd.
St Dennis were able up front, with two quick strikers and it was felt the one goal would never ease the pressure.
Lamerton's Simon Breyley and Rob Dicken were doing a great job on the league's top striker Lee Rickard, but there he was always a dangerous threat.
The St Dennis keeper spilt a shot from Dan Healy and Hann followed in to score, but the flag went up on the far side and the goal was disallowed.
The tension remained, but with 20 minutes left, man of the match Searle beat his man yet again down the right and showed great composure to link up with Hann once more, to score.
The goal killed the game off as St Dennis lost heart and allowed Lamerton to dominate possession for the remainder.
* This Saturday Lamerton are away to Torpoint, kick-off at 2.30pm.
