Carlsberg SW Peninsula Premier League

Tavistock AFC 2

Falmouth Town 1

ON a glorious sunny afternoon the Lambs secured another three points to keep the pressure on the teams above them. The home team had to make a number of changes due to injuries and unavailability. This resulted in young Harry Hardy being given the right-back spot.

Both sides created early chances, both Lee Coxon and Shane Krac wasted good scoring opportunities before Dan Stidwell almost gave the visitors the lead when he saw his shot go just wide.

Midway through the first half the home side began to apply more pressure on the visitors' defence. This resulted in a number of corner kicks being taken by Krac and both Menhenick and David were disappointed when they missed the target when well placed.

Coxon produced a fine run down the right flank and hit a low cross into the visitors' penalty area for Krac to hit the side netting. Will Stringer then split the visitors' defence to put Ryan Honey in on goal, but Chapman made a fine stop to deny him.

The Lambs finally made the breakthrough in the 28th minute when a great strike from the edge of the area by Lee Coxon took a slight deflection to give Chapman no chance as it flew into the net.

Both sides set a fast pace at the start of the second half, with Falmouth taking the game to the Lambs for the first quarter, but the home defence held firm and gradually began to gain control.

In the 68th minute the ball came to Simon Skews who let fly and his shot was clearly handled by the visitors' centre-back Howlett. Ryan Honey confidently dispatched the penalty, sending Chapman the wrong way.

The Lambs then had a very sloppy period and as a result Falmouth pulled a goal back eight minutes later when Rob Carey fired an unstoppable shot across Meeds and inside the far top corner.

This was another game that should have been put to bed by half-time, and there must be an improvement in the Lambs' conversion rate of chances made.

There were a number of good performances, but debutant Harry Hardy had a good game at right-back, and it is pleasing to see young players coming through the club's reserve team ranks.

This Saturday the first team visit Torpoint, kick off 3pm.
