Jewson South Western League

Tavistock 3

Bodmin 1

THE Lambs took all three points but the scoreline did not reflect the story of he game. Bodmin, bottom of the table, came to Langsford Park determined to stem the flow of goals.

It could have been business as usual had Lee Cansfield's 30-second shot gone in but was cleared off the line, Bodmin keeper Charles West brought off a good save from Mark Wall and Cansfield headed over when well placed.

The breakthrough came after 26 minutes as Danny McTighe's cross found wing back John Gosling ghosting in to glance his header past West.

It was the signal for the visitors to have their best spell and it took a good save by Andy Meeds to deny Brett Elliott. Talented winger John May was a constant thorn to the Lambs and it was he who was fouled by defender Craig Hodge for Paul Walters to equalise from the penalty spot six minutes before the interval.

The Lambs were soon back in front when Cansfield deflected Chris Kiely's shot past West after 48 minutes. Darren Babb and Tony Cusack missed good chances for the Lambs to wrap the game up before Bodmin almost equalised again but Meeds made a point-blank save from Elliott.

It was not until five minutes before the end that the Lambs made sure of all three points as Dean Tongue crossed from the by-line for Cansfield to go around the keeper and walk the ball into the net.

P & D Combination League Premier Cup

Tavistock 3

Plympton Utd 2

WITH no first team game, managers Chris Abbott and Craig Smith brought in Chris Gott and John Gosling to start.

The game got off to a dramatic start with two goals in the first 90 seconds. The first free kick went to the Lambs but it was cut out by the visitors in midfield and fed to Paul Tubb and from 30 metres let fly to give Lambs keeper Craig Howell no chance.

The Lambs responded immediately with Gott bringing the ball forward to send Gosling into the area. His pass allowed Steve Daymond to shoot low past the keeper.

The visitors went into the lead again 10 minutes before the break, Corin Whitfield smashing the ball in at the far post.

Simon Pocknell came on the out of form Steve Shaw and brought the Lambs back on level terms just after the hour when the keeper could only parry a shot. Pocknell picked up the rebound to send it into the net.

Tavistock took the lead five minutes later but it was not without controversy. There appeared to be a handball by Tavistock's Mark Piper on the halfway line but the referee said 'play on' much to the annoyance of the Plympton players and their linesman. The ball fell to Gosling in the area and he made no mistake from 12 metres.

Craig Howell brought off two saves to keep the Lambs ahead to deny ex Lambs striker Steve Dann before Darren Halfyard saw his effort saved by the keeper.

Right on full-time Pocknell had the chance to put the game beyond doubt but his chip lacked height to beat the keeper.
