Carlsberg South Western League
St Austell 5
Tavistock 2
THE Lambs' five-match unbeaten run came to an end last Saturday at Poltair where they crashed to a heavy defeat.
It all started well, despite Andy Meeds having to pull off a great save to prevent the home side going in front after ten minutes.
Fifteen minutes later the Lambs opened the scoring. James Cole's free kick was headed back across goal by Darren Babb for Hadjiyianni to ghost in and slot home.
The game turned sour ten minutes later in controversial fashion with a St Austell player injured and the home side in possession.
Despite calls for the ball to be put out of play for him to receive attention the Tavistock side stopped playing but the home side had other ideas — the ball was threaded through a static defence for Gary Wheildon to lob it over Meeds for the equaliser.
It was an unsporting way to get back on level terms and it upset the Lambs. Meeds saved again in a one-on-one situation before the Lillywhites went a goal up on the stroke of half-time.
From a Lambs attack that broke down the home side broke away quickly for Nick Campbell to curl his shot wide of Meeds.
The Lambs changed their tactics at half-time with Steve Daymond coming on for Craig Hodge to go back to a 4-4-2 formation but soon found themselves further behind as Nick Bennett's free kick took a wicked deflection off Nathan Blamey to leave Meeds stranded.
A chance for the Lambs went begging just after before the home side were awarded a penalty.
Cole was adjudged to have brought down an opponent in the area and Tom Sundercombe made no mistake from the spot.
The home side completed their scoring with 20 minutes remaining with a route one goal as keeper Penhaligon's clearance sailed over the defence for Adam Combstock to head over the advancing Meeds.
It then went from bad to worse with Paul Adcock sent off for two cautions along with joint manager Chris Abbott leaving the dugout.
The Lambs finished off the game with a consolation goal as Dave Hallett turned in the area to shoot home.
A disappointing end to the Lambs' unbeaten run but the controversial leveller seemed to have knocked the stuffing out of them and they never really recovered from it.
