TAVISTOCK AFC are already preparing for the kick off of the newly formed South West Peninsula Football League Twice and players are now training twice weekly. It?s an exciting time for the Lambs who off the pitch are enjoying the extension of the Red and Black club, which is near completion. Tavistock are drawn at home in both FA Cup and Vase. They play Bodmin on Saturday, August 18, in the Cup extra preliminary round and Gillingham (Dorset) in the Vase first qualifier on Saturday, September 8. Their new South West Peninsula season starts on Saturday, August 11, with an away trip to Clyst Rovers while the first home game for the Lambs is on Saturday, August 25, when they entertain Ivybridge. Ian Southcott, who co-manages the side with Craig Smith, said: ?Our finish to last season was outstanding and our main objective was to keep the squad together in order to mount a serious title challenge. To have a real go at the FA Vase and a decent run in the FA Cup we felt we needed to add a couple of key signings. ?We have not only managed to keep hold of all of last season?s talented squad but we have added those key signings. Classy midfielders Lee Coxon (Truro City) and Gary Ashton (Torpoint), have both signed and they are joined by former Argyle apprentice Mark Robotham and defenders Joe Smith (former captain of Millbrook) and Dan Jefferis (Callington). ?We were only looking to sign two or three new players, but when quality players like this become available it is too good an opportunity to miss out on. ?We are also delighted that Glyn Hobbs has signed on the dotted line despite numerous offers from other clubs in our league and a great deal of interest from several league clubs including Notts County and Yeovil Town. Glyn is an exceptional talent and when he is in full flow he is almost unstoppable. There is very little doubt that he could play at any level.?
