Pertemps Devon Premier Cup semi-final

Newton Abbott 2

Tavistock 1 (aet)

THE Lambs have only themselves to blame for not progressing to the final after dominating for large spells of the game.

They got the perfect start when on 15 minutes Dean Tongue found Lee Cansfield in space to cut in from the left to send the ball over keeper Pete Rider and high into the net.

Newton Abbott brought on former Exeter and Argyle professional Robbie Turner for the start of the second period and he leapt high to head home Paul Le Huray's corner in the 46th minute to bring them back on level terms.

The Lambs almost replied immediately with John Gosling on a one-on-one with the keeper but somehow Rider got a foot to the ball to send it for a corner.

Cansfield was presented with the best chance for the Lambs to take the lead. A Tavistock free kick was headed on and he created space in the goal area but his shot hit Rider and was scrambled to safety.

The Lambs continued to dominate but could not turn chances into goals and the game went into extra time. By now the middle of the pitch had turned into a mudbath and the home side brought on their other two substitutes. The Lambs conceded a corner with just two minutes before the end of extra time. Le Huray's cross was met by Justin Osbourne at the near post to send it goalwards and Matt Stephenson deflected it past Craig Hodge on the goal-line to put them into the final.
