Carlsberg South Western League Cup 1st round Penryn Athletic 4 Tavistock 1 THE Lambs' recent poor form in the League continued in the cup as they bowed out in the first round on Saturday after convincingly beating Liskeard in a previous preliminary match. They were without the suspended Will Stringer with Sean Cann taking his spot in the back four. Mike Arscott was able to sit on the subs bench after passing a referee's examination of his plastered wrist with a recent injury. It was the Lambs who could have taken an early lead as Shane Krac's free kick was palmed away for a corner in the second minute and saw keeper Chris Symonds clutch hold of another effort on seven minutes. The Lambs had a memory loss on 15 minutes when the home side scored from a similar position to the last visit to Kernick Road. Penryn's Dean Harris's low cross into the area was not dealt with and Matt Salmon stabbed home from close range. The Lambs had a chance moments later when Chris Menhenick's free kick was met at the far post by Steve Daly but his powerful header went straight into the arms of home keeper Symonds. Mark Conday then shot over the bar for the Lambs and Andy Meeds saved with Menhenick clearing off the line. The home side increased their lead on the half hour as Richard Young got to the by-line to cut back for Dale Band to fire home. Matt Drummond sent a shot over the bar for Penryn before they scored their third to put the tie beyond doubt. It was another Dean Harris free kick that rebounded out to Lee Bradd to fire home from the edge of the area. Tavistock's Krac and Daly combined twice early in the second half as the latter sent in headers but it was the home side that got their fourth on the hour due to the sheer persistence of Young to win a lost cause in the Lambs area to set up Matt Moore. The Lambs then finally woke up but it was all too late and the only consolation came after 70 minutes when they were fortunate to get a penalty as Conday went sprawling from a challenge by keeper Symonds. Conday made no mistake firing low into the corner.
